iPod Touch can now act as PDA. It does not have Mail, Stocks, Weather and Notes. You cannot add new events under Calendar. Those are pretty useful but Apple just wipe it.

Now, you can install applications that you want, but this is not official. So, here is the guide to let you enhance the power of iPod Touch.

This guide only for Windows, for mac click here. After you finished the guide, you will be able to:

1. Add new calendar event

2.Running the missed iPhone application

3.Running the cool native applications that comes from community. Customize iPod Touch with your style.

Stage 1: Making installer on the springboard

Step 1. Backup and restore iPod Touch. Make sure it is iPod Touch firmware 1.1.1.

Step 2. Download the touchfree. Choose the stable version 0.6. Alpha version doesn’t have SSH preinstalled, so it’s not recommended.

Step 3. It will ask you to navigate your iPod Touch to specific address. Do so and click the button to continue.

Step 4. When you finished Step 2, you will need to restart iPod touch as stated. Click the button once you finished.

Step 5. It will ask you to restart the iPod Touch once it finished updating the files. Also, click the button once you restarted the iPod touch again.

Step 5. It will now upload the Installer.app and SummerBoard into iPod Touch. Once it is finished, you will need to restart again.Notice this time the iPod Touch will automatically restart again after you restart it, click the button when it finished loading.

Step 6. Now, click ‘exit’ cause the iPod Touch have already restarted itself.

Step 8. Now, you will be able to install any applications you want. Click Installer.app on iPod touch, update it to 3.0b4 and install the Community Sources first.

Stage 2: Porting iPhone applications

If you have iPhone 1.1.1 on hand, and would like to port the applications in iPod Touch, follow the steps below. Download WinSCP to SSH into iPhone and iPod Touch.

Step 9. Copy those iPhone 1.1.1 applications you want. We copied Notes, Stocks, Weather, Mail and Maps from iPhone’s “/Applications”. Copy the .app folder.

Step 10. Copy the whole iPhone GMM.Framework folder “GMM.framework” from iPhone’s “/System/Library/Frameworks”.

Step 11. Copy the whole MobileMail settings folder “MobileMailSettings.bundle” from iPhone’s “/System/Library/PreferenceBundles/”

Step 12. Now, connect iPod Touch to Wi-Fi, check the IP address.

Step 13. Than, run WinSCP again. enter the iPod Touch login information. Use the correct IP address, “root” as username and “alpine” as password.

Step 14. Upload those applications we copied to iPod Touch’s “/Applications”. Make sure you choose “Binary” as the type. Right-click to chmod programs to 755, and click set permission recrursively.
