How to: Jailbreak iPod Touch 1.1.3 with iPhone Apps

    (for windows and mac)

    jb113-00.png

There is so many changes about iPod Touch 1.1.3 jailbreak recently. The “1.1.3 Soft upgrade package” is removed from the Installer.app and it seems upgrading iPod Touch is harder.

Thanks to ijailbreak Mobile, things are easier. Here is the tutorial on how to do it under Windows and Mac OS X. Since we used the Installer to complete the upgrade, you will only use iTunes for Windows or Mac OS X for the downgrade.

Note this upgrade may wash all of your existing content of iPod Touch. Always backup before proceed to upgrade.

And also, try it at your own risk (I mentioned many times on this site!!! Don’t blame anyone if there’s any error)

My iPod Touch starts from firmware 1.1.3.

Step 1. Put the iPod Touch in DFU mode. iTunes 7.6 will shows you the dialog, press check and it will in recovery mode. Press and hold “Alt/Option” key for Mac (”Shift” key for Windows) and click “Restore”. Select the iPod Touch 1.1.1 firmware which can be downloaded here.

If you get error (1), that means your iPod Touch is not in DFU mode. Please retry.

Step 2. After downgrade, it may hang at recovery screen. Use Independence for Mac or iBrickr for Windows to kick it from the recovery screen. Then, Open safari and navigate to “http://jailbreakme.com”. Scroll down and choose “Install AppSnapp”

Step 3. Wait for a few seconds and the iPod Touch will now restart. You will see the “Installer.app” in the springboard. Install “BSD Subsystem” from “Installer.app”. Add the source “ijailbreak.com/repo.plist” under Installer’s Source tab.

    jb113d.png

Step 4. From the “Installer.app”, Choose “iJailBreakMobile”. Select the “iJailBreakMobile 1.1.1″ for 1.1.1.

    jb113b.png

Step 5. Press Home button and you will see the “iJailBreak”. Run it and you will see a lot of text. Be patient. The process will be completed automatically and it will automatically restarted.

    jb113c.png

Step 6. If it does not run properly, reinstall the “BSD subsystem” and “iJailBreakMobile” from Installer.

If everything is okay, the iPod Touch will be upgraded with software upgrade (which means you will have Maps, Stocks, Mail and Notes available).

    jb113e.png

If you found you cannot upgrade from 1.1.1 to 1.1.3, you can perform the following steps at 1.1.1

    1. Install “Oktoprep” from “Tweaks (1.1.1)” of Installer.

    2. Perform update through iTunes by holding “Alt/Option” key for Mac (”Shift” key for Windows), then, click Update. Select iPod Touch 1.1.2 firmware

    3. Perform the above step 4. But this time, please run “iJailBreakMobile 1.1.2″.

When you try to install de BSD Package, first clear your list of install because you tryed to install something first and it stay on your list on first. So you have to clear your list and try to install again.

    • 19. Colin replies at 27th February 2008, 5:54 am :

Hey, I am currently waiting for the app to update my 1.1.1 to 1.1.3 while keeping the jailbreak (Step 5)

I see a lot of text, and the only thing I’m worried about is that on every line, after a command there is “Permission Denied”.

Is this normal? Because I don’t want to sit around for a day looking at this screen if nothing’s going to happen and/or i’ve done something wrong.

      Thanks.

i go to jailbreakme.com and click install appsnapp and after a minute or so it closes and goes back to the home screen. no installer.app on the springboard. after all the trouble of downgrading to 1.1.1 and losing my $20 apps this sucks! any suggestions?

    • 23. Phil Price replies at 28th February 2008, 5:45 am :

How long will the iJailbreak for firmware 1.1.1 take?

    • 24. chadhot replies at 28th February 2008, 6:08 am :

it was the firewall i was behind. now that i’m on another network it worked but i’ve got the same issue as collin. let me know if you find a resolution. i’ll try the 1.1.2 steps as well.

    • 25. admin replies at 28th February 2008, 8:13 am :

      chadhot,

As I mentioned many times on this site, always try it at your own risk.

By the way, you do not need to pay $20 for the additional apps. And since you already paid for it, you won’t lose those apps. You can simply restore your iPod Touch to 1.1.3 (or 1.1.4), the app will come back again.

    • 26. admin replies at 28th February 2008, 8:15 am :

      Phil Price,

Sorry that I didn’t check the time. I just leave it there and let it upgrade.

But if you have successfully run the program, and hang in the end, you can try to restart the iPod to see what happen.

    • 27. Phil Price replies at 29th February 2008, 3:29 am :

I have jus attempted to run it and have the same prob that Colin has got, it jus says ‘Permission Denied’ after every line of cde

I had the same issue as many, with the message “denied…” but i quit, reinstalled the 2 BSD’s, reinstalled “ijailbreak…” and then it worked out perfectly fine. FRom my opinion jailbreking is 100% safe cuz even if it crashes ( it did many times for me), well you can alllwayss resotre it using itunes

      thanks

    • 52. admin replies at 7th June 2008, 5:39 pm :

      andreas,

No. You are not weird. I welcome all the questions.

Ok. Jailbreak is a process which makes existing iPhone/iPod Touch can run native programs by iPhone Dev Team.

After jailbreak, you will be able to see a additional icon “installer” which have lots of awesome programs for you to enhance the features of iPod Touch.

Most of them are free. You can try by using ZiPhone tool at:

      http://www.ziphone.org

Just to note that try it at your own risk.
