Update [3 December 2008]: The steps work again!
Update [22 November 2008]: Apparently, Apple has closed this “hole” to create the new and free iTunes account. Sorry to say that as from today, it does not work anymore.
Some readers seems got no luck to create a free iTunes account using the method I posted in 2007. I promised the method still works during our test under iTunes 8.0.1. Anyway, I found another way for you guys to try. It uses the trick through App Store. No need to enter credit card. It has also been tested under iTunes 8.0.1.
Let’s take a look after the break. The steps are even simpler and takes less time.
Step 1. Choose the Store. Then find some freeware from the App Store. Click “Get App”.
Step 2. It will ask you to create a new account. Click “Create a new Account”.
Step 3. Enter the required information. Click “Continue”.
Step 4. See, you will be able to choose “None” as payment method. Enter the mailing address now. Again we will show you it is tested in iTunes 8.0.1. Notice this screenshot is not the same one in the old method to show you I have tested this method.
Step 5. You may require to verify your email. Just check your email account. Enjoy your free iTunes account.
I have tested it in United States, United Kingdom and Hong Kong store. I am pretty sure it will work in other country store. Leave your message and try that now.
Note you cannot purchase anything in the store that is not your current location. For instance, you can’t purchase anything from US store if you don’t have the US credit card.
this don’t work with itunes 8.2.1.6… help!!!!

Thanks to you’r tutorial..i was able to get my apple account done..however, it is only after all that stuggle that i realised i could now download free applications but could’nt sync the same to my iphone. the reason being i use iphone version 1.1.3 while i guess i need a 2.0 version onwards.
updating my iphone is also an issue as it has been unlocked for use.
please share your inputs on the same.I really need a solution to this.

I guess you are using iPhone 2G. Updating iPhone 2G to 3.0.1 is actually safe now. redsn0w 0.8 will do the unlock process for you.

if you want to purchase something, album art in my case, n u dont have the store in your country or access to a card with access, you’re screwed? they shud make it so u can purchse from wherever u r. my money is good too

Did it go to the SPAM folder? You may want to retry the steps if you can’t receive the email within 24 hours.

Does not work anymore with iTunes 9. Payment method “none” is no longer available.
I created an iTunes US account easily with this method and I’m from Vietnam. I tried to create an iTunes Uk account too, but it doesn’t have the ‘None’ option like the US one. I guess they’ve just removed it since iTunes 9, or even iTunes 8.0.1. So any solutions guys?
Quan that hapeend to me it not got the o None option.
the id is created, but i still can’t find any cd cover atwork, as it says either nothing, when i click the album and “ger artwork”, either – “no artwork found”/ am i doing anything wrong?….

1st step, get into website itunes store
2nd look for an app
3rd click on get app
4th filling with fake or true info
5th will be appear none as payment method =)
6th filling info
7th change the user name with your true e-mail

At the end of all, you have to verify your e-mail to activate the itunes account !!!!
