The video above is blurry, but if you look closer, you will notice the HTC Touch Pro is running Blackberry virtual OS. This is not a joke or humor. This is real. It’s an application that runs on Windows Mobile 6 devices. In the video, you can see that you can launch the virtual Blackberry OS by tapping a program icon. It’s just like a program in Windows Mobile 6.
This virtual Blackberry OS delivers many features like the real one. You can use it by touching the screen. The OS kernel is based on 4.2.1 with support of simultaneous APN connections. Other features include,
* BlackBerry Email including attachments
* RIM Instant Message clients work Gtalk, Yahoo IM, AIM, Windows Live
* Can send and receive PIN messages and BlackBerry Messenger
* Supports BES sync of calendar, tasks, address book, & memos
* PIM/Email databases, unlike BB Connect, are separate. Thus you can have two Exchange accounts (one via WM, one via BES) syncing fully.
* Browser works just like BlackBerry browser allowing or intranet access on BES
* Integrates with the phone so you can make calls and all even from links on websites
* Allows for caller ID in the phone application
* You can access your windows mobile files from the BlackBerry OS though the opposite is not possible
* You can easily switch between the BlackBerry and Windows Mobile OS
* Supports easy switching between landscape and portrait view
* It works with BIS 2.4+ or BES or both
There are still some limitation of this virtual OS. But, it’s exciting to see that a smartphone can run 2 OS. I always dream my iPhone can run Google Android. Will it be there very soon?
