Push notification is introduced in iPhone 3.0 which lets the IM apps keep “running in the background”, and deliver message to users immediately with a pop up dialog. A developer Till Schadde has discovered AIM contains a serious exploit on push notification: It will push the message to random recipients. That means the IM message you sent to friend may be delivered to unknown stranger.
Till discovered the exploit seems only happens to those jailbroken and unlocked iPhones. It may be caused by the change of identifier for software unlock. It is still not sure whether all the iPhones will be affected. Anyway, no matter it contains exploits or not, you should know that not to send confidential information through the IM apps. It applies to all smartphone platforms.
