EDIT: This guide no longer works and obsolete
For those iPhone users who used any tools that are not officially comes with Apple, be warned with the iTunes 7.4 update. If you have jailbreaked, adding your custom ringtones, using iFuntastic for unshackling or installing native applications, you may not be able to restore the iPhone again. It is okay to sync hacked iPhone, but not for restoration or jailbreaking. People in hackint0sh reported the iPhone goes crazy when they press the restore button under iTunes 7.4. Video and the solution that may help after the break.
The iPhone will keep on repeating restart process itself, it will never turn it back to normal state. Putting the phone under restore mode nor installing iTunes old version can help. Some suspecting the jailbreak is not working with new iTunes, it may work if jailbreak tools are updated. Hence, don’t rush to update your iPhone. Will Apple fix it for users to hack their iPhone again? The answer is probably no.
Solution that may help to get SSH, FTP, Apache and more native programs working with iPhone again:
People reported there are new tools for iTunes 7.4. The following steps may help:
1. Before using the new tool, under iTunes 7.3, restore your iPhone completely without any jailbreak trace.
2. Then, upgrade to iTunes 7.4. Download the tool from Nullriver in order to pop the Installer.app to your iPhone.
3. Run the Installer.app from your iPhone home screen now. Tap any program that you want to install. We recommend you to install SSH so that you can happy to hack the iPhone again.
This solution can help your iPhone to get back those cool native applications again after upgrade. Just make sure you wipe your iPhone before upgrading. Additionally, they said:
“Also, You MUST NOT use the NEW tools with the OLD ITUNES. This will also cause a brick.. Only use OLD TOOLS with OLD ITUNES. And new tools with new itunes.”
`.
The new independence (jailbreak, activation,SSH all-in-one tool) is now released for iTunes 7.4. Download it at here.
To by-pass AT&T activation, you may use iPhoneActInstaller under Mac OS X. This may not be affected in iTunes 7.4.
NOTE NOW FIXED ALL THE INFINITE BOOT PROBLEM AT THIS THREAD. ALL WORKS PERFECTLY NOW.
