iPhone 4.6 bootloader dumped. Means full unlock is coming?

iPhone bootloader

The new U.S. iPhone (starts from week 45) and all the UK iPhone now cannot be unlocked with existing unlock method around all the internet. They came with 4.6 bootloader You may downgrade to 1.1.1, but the phone function cannot be unlocked. Recently, a hackint0sh user TA_Mobile dumped the 4.6 bootloader. The dump now existed to download, but it should not be used with end user.

So, what will it mean? Since existing “bbupdater” command cannot touch or modify the bootloader, after dumping the 4.6 bootloader, the decoder and programmer can try to hack it for unlocking. This news means a lot of help to them.

I dont understand? It will be easier unlock an iphone or not? This applies just for news iphones?

  2. Jason says:

Then it’s unlocked by hardware or software?

  3. Josh says:

Wat i presume is tat, hackers and programmers try to downgrade the bootloader version. From 4.6 to the previous version. Then only they downgrade it to v1.1.1 n then try jailbreaking and unlocking it.
    Basically, 4 process;
    1.downgrade bootloader (dump)
    2. down grade the firmware to v1.1.1
    3.jailbreak it
4.unlock/activate it to use other sim cards.

Ok, tis is definitely way way more complicated, and it is not recommended for end users meaning most consumers.

and yes it only applies to new iphones (Out of the Box with firmware V1.1.2 and bootloader v4.6), sold beginning from end of october if i hv not mistaken in the US official iphone stores. There are only 4 places u can buy an iphone in US (apple stores, apple online stores, at&t stores and at&t online stores. The rest are all black market with an exorbitant price tag)

Why doesn’t anyone social engineer the key with which the bootloader is signed? That would seem a lot easier than trying to hack the bootloader itself :P

  5. Carlos A. says:

Ok, so i am basically a little f*ed. I just bought a damn iphone today (nov 26) on an the Apple Store in San Diego thinking that it would be very easy to unlock and until many failed tries i have just discovered that it is kinda impossible to unlock :o (

    Any suggestions ?????

Should i wait for the unlocking of 1.1.2 or just try to resell it over on ebay for someone to actually use :o (

P.S. I tried doing all the downgrading etc but as some entries around here point out, i was not able to downgrade the iphone, it would get stuck, etc.

i found this video on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qeb-KiM0Ggg
it seems has bootloader 4.6 and unlocked iphone. Doese anyone saw it, have any information?

  7. Gus says:

Is there steps posted anywhere on how to downgrade/dump the bootloader? That is the one area that is holding me back.

  8. admin says:

    Dima ,

If you have the way to get the very expensive TurboSIM, you can use your OTB iPhone

  9. admin says:

    Gus,

no. the bootloader dump is ONLY for programmers to think of the software unlock, not for any general user.

  10. admin says:

    Carlos A.,

these kind of new damn iPhone cannot be unlocked at the moment. :(

  11. roman says:

Is there a way to unlocking the new iphones that have the new bootloader??????? I already bypassed activation and want to know what should be done next. I would really appreciate if someone answered my question.

  12. Carlos A. says:

Thanks. I think i will wait or maybe even resell it over at ebay hehe

  13. moadyb says:

    Roman,

Dude you really need to search before posting.
You, Me and every Tom, Dick, Harry and Jane who bought an OTB Iphone v1.1.2 with 4.6 bootloader is just going to have to play with our over priced 8gig Itouch’s until someone smarter than ourselves finishes putting in the time and effort that it takes to deafeat the new bootloader lockdown.

You must realize the fact that it could be 2008 before this happens or by some chance of I-fate some super intelligent code breaker may help us to an early Christmas.

  14. Pierre-Yves van Haut says:

Could anyone be able to set a sort of time plan as to when a unlocking software for the iphone 1.1.2 bootloader 4.6 would be available for the end users..?

I’ve read that it could take months, is this a fact? The creation of a software (like previous ones) is set to a near future?

I’m leaving for the states in a week, and I’m currently trying to find out wether or not to buy one…It seems risky, although I fully trust the competence of the people hacking the phone.

    Thx

  15. phyz says:

great job on the dump. now lets get hacking.
    go go go

  16. Richard says:

At the moment, the Apple iPhone OOB (Out of box) 1.1.2 with new bootloader (version 4.6) can be jailbreaked (features activated) but not unlocked.

However, you can get TurboSIM to make the iPhone OOB fully functional. However, it is not considered an ‘unlock’.

  17. Jaime says:

Do the rumors of V1.1.3 coming out this week change anything??

    Comments?

  18. radames says:

    To Summarize:

There is no way to unlock the phone functions of the phone via software if your phone came Out Of The Box with firmware v.1.1.2

So, pray to the iGod, that a solution is with us before 2009, and pray hard people!!!!!!!

  19. prakasha says:

i hope that iphone dev team is going to give us surprise this christmas by unlocking the new boot loader 4.6 i hope sooooooooooooooooo well there must be way out great dev team
and all other programers and hard workers

  20. Amar says:

It has been a while and I do not see any solution for this problem so far. At this point it is not advisable to buy iPhone unless you want to be locked with the respective operators (in US & Europe). All others either wait for few more months or go for other options. It is not worth the wait and at the end you may end up spending for a product which will not be covered under warranty.

  21. george nelson says:

Do you all really believe this 4.6 bootloader will can be hacked? I’m anxious to use my phone and I’m getting a little scared that it can’t be cracked after seeing other people’s comments.

  22. charunika says:

plz dev team give us OTB iphones unlock solution,as a xmas present, thanks for greate wook, keep going

  23. John says:

Man, I am really impressed with the Admins of this forum. I don’t think I would have the patience to continually answer the same poorly worded questions day in and day out.

It’s pretty easy to find information regarding the unlockability (nice word) of the OTB iPhones that have the 4.6 Bootloader.

For everyone who just bought one to find out that it’s unlockable…..you’re going to have to sit tight for a software unlock, or just pay 100 bucks for TurboSIM.

PLEASE, for the love of god (or whoever) STOP posting these pleas for a fix.

    Thanks. :)

I upgraded my iphone to the factory settings just yesterday. It has native 1.1.1 version when I purchased it (3rd wk of oct). My currrent firmware version is 1.1.2 and modem baseband version 4.02.13_G

My question is: While upgrading to factory settings, do you think my bootloader version would have got upgraded too to 4.6? Not sure if bootloader upgrade involves just a piece of program.

  25. champ says:

i have been playing with my new iphone 112, 4.6 for 4 days now. please teach me how to be a hacker or programmer so that i can help assist us all. i am very good at troubleshooting all i need is the tools and i can do the rest

  26. John says:

    Hey Champ,

I think I saw an online course that teaches you how to be a hacker in a weekend.

I’ll re-post that link for ya if I come across it again.

Hey, this is pretty much old news, but does anyone out there know how to tell if the iPhone has the new 4.6 Bootloader??
Like from a specific serial number or something like that…

  34. iunixan says:

    Mandro:

from the shell prompt issue the following command

    # bbupdater -v

  35. ebeezy says:

Just want to know if anyone could help me, im tryin to use my Iphone i bought from Hong Kong, itsa got a chip that show my network in australia but when i got to Bial numbers it goes back to the home page and i cant read or open text messages it does the same thing. thanks

  36. Paul says:

Better way to know if the iPhone you’ll buy is 4.6 bootloader, is this :
    - Check the serial number printed on the bottom of the iPhone box (if not changed, of course).
    - if the 4th and 5th digit make a number equal or over 45, the iPhone inside is 4.6 bootloader.
