Highly anticipated iPhone firmware 2.2 is here. You can get it now from iTunes. iPod Touch also have the update, but the feature is a little bit different from iPhone. iPhone firmware 2.2 brings the exiciting Google Street View that is already there for Android phone. It also enables users to download the podcast through Wi-Fi or data network directly without iTunes.

My friends have been updated to the new firmware already. I want jailbreak so I didn’t update yet. As usual, this update will wipe all the unofficial jailbreak softwares from the iPhone. For those who rely the jailbreak tool to activate iPhone, also do not update until unofficial tools are available.

My friends said that iPhone firmware 2.2 Safari is more stable. Last time when Apple said that Safari was fixed, but the truth is that it still crashed a lot. But, this time, this is for real. They have been using the new firmware for few hours and found that the web browsing experience is much better. The performance of Safari is improved, greatly. If you are using the official carrier and don’t want jailbreak, update now.

Here is the official list of the update.

* Enhancements to Maps
o Google Street View
o public transit and walking diretions
o display address of dropped pins
o share location via email
* Enhancements to Mail
o resolved isolated issues with scheduled fetching of email
o improved formatting of wide HTML email
* Improved stability and performance of Safari
* Podcasts are now available for download in iTunes application (over Wi-Fi and cellular)
* Decrease in call set-up failures and call drops
* Improved sound quality of visual voicemail messages
* Pressing the Home button from any Home screen takes you to the first Home screen
* Preferences to turn on/off auto-correction in Keyboard settings

    I am glad that apple is continuing to update the firmware, but can they get some priorities straight? Like better integration with exchange calendar invites and some copy paste. I would love to replace my blackberry with an IPhone at work, but these basics need to be provided. Sure Street view is nice, but all its going to do is help me find the soup line if I lose my job because I missed a calendar invite.

    Ive also noticed that the battery life is more longer in this version compared to 2.1 when i had it, it drained my battery life so quickly. Been with 2.2 for couple of hrs with bluetooth enabled and wifi and still rocking solid.
