HTC: I won’t allow the media to compare Touch Diamond with iPhone 3G

A reporter from Taiwan told me this, I am not sure whether it is real or not. In case you don’t know, technology reporters borrow the products in order to write a review. They always contact the manufacturers, and manufacturer will lend the products to reporters through public relations representatives for a short period of time. The reporters will then test the product and tell you everything about it based on their experience.

So a reporter wants to test the HTC Touch Diamond and write a review. He asks the PR representative to lend him the HTC Touch Diamond. But, the representative told him, “I won’t let you to compare the HTC Touch Diamond with iPhone. You are not allowed to do so. We will feel unhappy about it”. The representative then said, “If you do not write positive report of HTC Touch Diamond, we will not lend you the product. Much more, you won’t be able to lend any future HTC product.  ”

If it is true, I feels not right that HTC do this kind of thing. Reporters are supposed to be fair and balance to write the review. Much more, if HTC feels comfortable about their product, why would they afraid the reporters to compare it with the iPhone. And why they don’t lend the product to the media? Do HTC want to control the media in anyways?

Please help to Digg this to raise the concern. I am afraid those positive review about HTC Touch Diamond on the internet may not be 100% accurate. Peter Chou (HTC’s boss), can you explain what has happened?
