AT&T will cut the new iPhone by $200

It is very logical and reasonable to think that Apple will release 3G iPhone this year. Sources said AT&T is now preparing to cut the iPhone model as much as $200. Bringing down to the price at $199. 2 years contracts still required. The new 3G iPhone is expected to have 8G and 16G version. Is it really possible to cut the new stuff in that low price. This is really questionable.

I would think they would go the other way on this. They would release a 32GB iPhone with 3G and then charge an additional $100, bringing the price to $599. There’s too much hype around a 3G iPhone. I am personally waiting for the 3G version before buying an iPhone, and I know a lot of people who are doing the same.
If they lower the price of iPhones by $200, they would also need to lower the price of iPod touch, which is effectively an iPhone without the calling capabilities. They would also need to adjust the price of the entire line of iPods.
They could possibly do this, but it doesn’t fit their marketing strategy of offering more features instead of lowering the item price. Granted, that was exactly what they did for the iPhone a few months after it entered the market, but even that was out of character for them.
This could just be another marketing ploy to build more hype about the 3G iPhone.
