[OBSOLETE] (Win)Ultimate guide to unlock any iPhone 1.1.1 for free. No downgrading.

[THIS GUIDE WILL NOT WORK ANYMORE. DO NOT FOLLOW. TAKE A LOOK OF OUR IPHONE ULTIMATE GUIDE PAGE FOR UPDATED GUIDES]

    Unlock iPhone 1.1.1 in Windows

This guide only for out of the box iPhone 1.1.1. If your iPhone has been unlocked by old anySIM 1.0.2 (or any other free unlock method for iPhone 1.0.2) or having an incorrect IMEI 004 or you are having an iPhone 1.1.2, you can try this virgin method before upgrading.

We can’t guarantee you it will work 100%. Try it at your own risk.

    This guide will let you:

    1. Jailbreak iPhone 1.1.1 and use and swap any SIM card other than AT&T. YouTube will be enabled, too.

2.You will be able to install 3rd party applications.
    3.Enable International Support

    4. Free custom ringtones

The iPhone 1.1.1 starts at the “activate iPhone screen”. If you are in iPhone 1.0.2, please upgrade to iPhone 1.1.1 first.

Note your computer and iPhone should connect to the same Wi-Fi so that IP address are on the same range.

You may see this if you are running old version of iTunes. Just ignore it. You just need Wi-Fi and WinSCP to unlock your iPhone. This guide works for iTunes 7.5.

Stage 1: Jailbreak and uploading anySIM

Step 1. Slide to make emergency call. Press “*#307#”. It will start ringing.

Step 2. Clear all the numbers by pressing “x”. Enter “0″, press “call”, than press “answer”.

Step 3. Press “Hold”, than it will ring again. Press “Decline”. It will show you the contact list.

Press Hold first. Than press decline when it rings again.

Step 4. Add a new contact. Choose to “add new URL”. Enter “prefs:”. Add one more home url, this time enter “jailbreakme.com”. Save all the informations.

    jailbreakme

Step 5. Click the “home page”, it will pop up the settings now. Connect to the Wi-Fi connections that you wish for. (same IP range with notebook computer. how to do it? Just make sure iPhone and notebook are connected with same Wi-Fi AP station.). Also, make sure it will not go to sleep mode by going into General > Auto Lock > Never.

Step 6.Press home button to go back to the “activate iPhone” screen. Slide for emergency, and press “0″ to call. Answer the call than hold the call. It will ring again. Than, press decline and you will go back to contact list.

Step 7. Select the contact we created in Step 4. This time, press the home that is “http://jailbreakme.com” to let the Safari open it. Scroll down and choose to install the AppSnapp.

    jailbreakme02.png

Step 8. Your Safari will crash and go back to the “Activate iPhone” screen. Do not touch the iPhone or any other buttons now.

Step 9. It will restart itself. If it is not for more than 10 minutes, repeat the steps from Step 6-8. If you see a blue dot, restore your iPhone completely with 1.1.1 firmware.

Step 10. You should now get into the main home screen with Installer on the springboard. Click and choose “All packages”, install the “BSD Subsystem”, than install “OpenSSH” through the Installer.app of iPhone.

Step 11. Go back to Windows. Use WinSCP, connect to the iPhone SSH system by typing the correct iPhone’s IP. You need to type “root” as username, “alpine” as password. You can always check your iPhone’s IP by clicking Settings > Wi-Fi, click the blue arrow that you connected to.

change 192.168.1.217 to your iPhone’s IP address

Step 12. Upload the anySIM 1.1.1 to “Applications” folder. Download the AnySIM program, extract it as “AnySIM.app”, upload the AnySIM.app folder to your iPhone.Choose “Binary” for the transfer type. (We do not recommend to use iphone.unlock.no. Coz we found there are some problem.)

Step 13. Right-click “anySIM.app” and choose “properties”. You should check “anySIM.app” itself is set as 755, make sure “Set group, owner and permissions recursively” is checked. Look at the following picture for reference. Restart the iPhone. Now, run the anySIM program and start to free your iPhone.

Make sure you set your anySIM.app like this

    Stage 2: Enable custom ringtones.

Step 16. Install SendSong 0.21e from Installer.app. Choose it under Multimedia and make sure you didn’t choose the old SendSong 0.9.

    Install SendSong 0.21e

Step 17. Open iTunes. Import the ringtone that you want to use. Convert it to AAC file.

Step 18. Sync that AAC file to your iPhone. We recommend you to create a new playlist, e.g. iPhone ringtones, so that you will not mess up with the existing song playlist.

Step 19. Run SendSong from your iPhone. Choose the ringtone you want to use and click “Send to Ringtones”. You may need to restart before you can see the ringtone in General > Sounds.

SendSong 0.21e, choose send to ringtone.

    Stage 4: Enable international support
This is pretty important if you don’t want the telephone number in US format.

Step 20. Download the pre-patched file here. Extract it

Step 21. Upload it to your iPhone’s “‘/System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app” using WinSCP. Restart it. And you’re ready to go.

    END OF THE GUIDE

It is a good guide but it has many mistakes. The password in WinSCp is “alpine”. And if the lockdownd file you rename .old iphone gets stuck just overwrite the old one

      Woddy,

We are using iTunes 7.4.2. It will work for iTunes 7.4.3, anyway.

Guide updated. You can always check IP using step 11.

And yes. this guide will not only upload more pictures but also keeps updating.

      Bruno,

Sorry that we make this mistake. BTW, you can always backup your lockdownd file to local hard disk, or, you can overwrite it for sure.

I was just wondering if I can use WinSCP on windows to access my iphone for STAGES 3-5 and to ‘jailbreak, activation and installing 3rd app’ on the Mac with iNdependance and Fugu?

    • 19. admin replies at 27th October 2007, 2:11 pm :

      Sam,

just run the program and click the button. It’s very simple. :) Easier than that one in Mac OS X.

You can always check IP by clicking Settings > Wi-Fi from your iPhone. Click the blue arrow you connected to.

    • 20. admin replies at 27th October 2007, 2:21 pm :

      Jon Tan,

If you run the jailbreak and activate steps in Mac, there is no need to repeat those stages in Windows again. Since you have a mac, you can always want to try the mac guide. That is pretty easy to follow under iNdependence.

      Brad,

I found this on the forum, you may try:

      OLD 6. ACTIVATING METHOD :

6.0 On your Iphone screen. Click Installer. Install BSD Subsystem (4mins or less)
[REMEMBER: If you used TouchFree alpha then you installed it already]
6.1 [In winSCP] Upload killall to /usr/bin folder on the iphone. Set permissions to 0655.
6.2 [In winSCP] Upload lockdownds files that were in the unlock111.zip you downloaded at the start to /usr/libexec Set permissions to 0755 to the three files.
6.3 [In winSCP] Rename the file called lockdownd on your /usr/libexec folder to lockdownd.back
6.4 [In winSCP] Rename the file lockdownd.1.0.2 to lockdownd [DON’T forget ends in d]
6.5 [In winSCP] Upload iphoneactivation.pem from \iasign\bin in your computer to /System/Library/Lockdown [The file is 1277k in size permissions:0644]
6.7 [In winSCP] go to Commands->Open Terminal (or just press Control+T).Enter command: killall lockdownd. Click Execute. THEN CLICK CLOSE.
6.8 Message on iphone screen: “iPhone is activated”. [ACTIVATION DONE]
The message may not appear..or it may take longer or it may have appear earlier. The imporant thing is the phone won’t complain and your phone carrier will appear in the top-left corner if the unlocking with ANYsim went fine.
6.9 [In winSCP] rename lockdownd to lockdownd.1.0.2 using WinSCP (This is in /usr/libexec)
6.10 [In winSCP] rename lockdownd.swap to lockdownd using WinSCP (This is in /usr/libexec)
6.11 [In winSCP] Repeat go to Commands->Open Terminal (or just press Control+T). Enter command: killall lockdownd . Click Execute.
6.12 Disconect your iPhone from USB. Restart. ENJOY!! Now you can swap SIM cards.
[WHAT IF activation didn’t work … well .. some people say this method didn’t work for them. I tried three times and it worked. Others have had success too. PLEASE REPORT. But make sure you followed every step!! Maybe iasign is needed in the end. And I would rewrite this part]

For those who have problem with jailbreak, try their alpha version to see whether the problem can be fixed.

      http://www.slovix.com/touchfree/touchfree-alpha.exe

You can always install SSH using the Installer included.

    • 67. Javier replies at 29th October 2007, 12:46 am :

Tried the alpha version. no luck. Stays in step 2, “Patching ipod flash image… 1000 tries” and counting.
admin, what do you mean by “You can always install SSH using the Installer included”? Remember the phone is still in jail, so how do i get to the installer?

    • 68. admin replies at 29th October 2007, 12:49 am :

      Javier,

If you are able to jailbreak using the alpha version, than you can install openSSH.

    • 69. Javier replies at 29th October 2007, 12:54 am :

but i could not jailbreak it using the alpha version. It stays in step 2, “Patching ipod flash image… yyy tries”.

anysim does not run… tested on 2 phones, all goes ok, but when trying to exec anysim, it only shows main screen (a lock, asking to slide to start unlock), and that´s it. there´s no way to slide, and after +/- 10 seconds, go to home screen.

tryied with iphonesimfree, which gives exactly same result.

    • 116. celio replies at 31st October 2007, 3:36 am :

well, if admin allow me to, I´d like to write some obs…:

      1) If you have ever ran anysim on your iphone 1.1.1 , but for some reason restored phone, and will jailbreak/activate phone again, DO NOT run anysim again. It causes most iphones to loose Wi-Fi. You should do everything above, but don´t run anysim again, as your iphone is already patched for unlocking (had this problem on 3 iphones);

      2) I see many ppl on forums having same problem as I had on 1st phone: Anysim or Simfree does not run. Solution is simple, just paying attention to guide above. If you don´t chmod its permissions allowing it to be executed, it really don´t work (shame on me for not reading as should);

      3) I see many ppl as well with hanging iphones after copying lockdownd to phone. Problem is very simple, and has nothing to do with “you have to replace lockdownd”. You may copy it, and rename old one to lockdownd.old, no problem. BUT you HAVE to give new permissions to file that you just written: 0555 , same as original. If 0644, iphone keeps hanging, if 0755, iphone restarts occasionally. So, do the proper permission: 555 ;

      4) ReVirginizer tool is a bless, but I can´t find modem 4.01.13_G anywhere to download. I noticed some strange hangings using 1.1.1 with 03.13.08_G, and had to downgrade iphone to 1.02, in order to work properly;

      5) I activated/unlocked/jailbreaked one iphone normally, even without installing BSD subsystem and OpenSSH, using jailbreakme.com . So, can´t see why is this needed. Using jailbreak.toc2rta.com , wasn´t needed at all;

      6) I got one iphone that did not ring after jailbreakme.com . It keeps on emergency mode for more than 15 minutes, tryied 2 more times, still the same. Had to do with jailbreak.toc2rta.com afterall, which works perfectly;

      7) If anyone need licence from iphonesimfree.com , contact me. I got 50 unused, whatta hell was I thinking?

EDIT by admin: Please do not sell products here. Sorry. And we don’t recommend to use iphonesimfree.com now coz it will destroy seczone which cannot be recovered or virginized.

      best regards to everyone!

Q1: Is it safe to update the installer version of iphone?
Q2: Im using iTunes 7.4.1.2, option “check for updates” has been unchecked. But im not sure whether it will still automatically update its version or not when internet connection is detected?
Q3: Is it safe to connect to iTunes store with iphone connected?

      I have a iPhone Firmware version 1.0.2 (virgin 1.0.2)
I just opened box and I never do anything to iPhone.
My question is If I upgrade iPhone from 1.0.2 to firmware version 1.1.1 and use this guide to unlock iPhone, can I do that?
      What should I do?
      Will it have the problem?
      Thank you.

      after jailbreakme.com

Put AnySIM on your iPhone by

      Launch Safari on the iPhone
Enter http://iphone.blurgle.ca/repo in the url box and hit go. (not having a trailing slash matters)
A dialog will pop up asking you if you want to add the repository, click ‘Yes.’
      Installer.app will add the source
Go back to Installer.app and install AnySIM

I’ve successfully used jailbreakme now on a restored unactivated as well as an activated iphone with no problems. Have even tried and successfully locked the phone up while jailbreaking only to restore and bring phone back to life. Using an activated iphone insured my youtube and itunes worked without taking any additional steps. My son liked it so much we upgraded his jailbroke 1.0.2 to 1.1.1 and it’s fully functional. I know it’s not mentioned anywhere doing it this way but I thought I’d try it just try it. This is the best way yet, and I’ll have to say I’ve done just about everything without bricking the phone. I’ve used Ibrickr on 1.0.2, anysim, unsuccessfully reflashed the baseband only to corrupt it enough to reguire a restore, upgraded to 1.1.1 then downgraded to 1.0.2 and used ibrickr, and now jailbreakme. My iphone is pretty much indestructable…

The rest of the procedure went fine, steps 15 to17 were not neccessary since appsnap activets the phone for you.

Awesome! Great Tutorial. Just a few comments:
      1) Yes, you can use http://i.unlock.no to install AnySIM, but you need SSH anyway to replace the lockdownd file
      2) I started with step 7, since my device was already activated (but make sure you have SW 1.1.1)
      3) You can skip step 12-14, if you follow http://i.unlock.no
      4) In winSCP, I had to switch under “Environment” to “CR/LF Windows” (default is Linux)
      5) You Tube was working right away!
      6) US guys with a T-Mobile data package: Under EDGE Settings (General Settings -> Network) just add “internet2.voicestream.com” for the APN and leave the rest blank -> iPhone works with TMO EDGE!

Hey Admin: Well done and thanks for all the updates/comments!

    • 182. Zack replies at 4th November 2007, 1:56 am :

      Hi Admin, and everyone!

Thanks a lot for the free tutorial, I just unlocked my iphone successfully. Since my unlocking experience did not go as predicted in the tutorial, I will make these comments/suggestions for other users:
      1) On Step 1, as obvious as it is, click “call” after you put *#307#.
      2) On Step 4, after Enter “prefs://1f”, you should save that URL, and then go and add another one. That means you have to save twice for each URL and then you have to save all the information.
      3) For step 5, it is suggested you setup a Wifi network at home and use it for the procedure to unlock your iphone. This will offer a stable and strong WiFi connection in order to install AppSnapp in Step 7.
      4) Personally I was stuck at Step 7. As many people posted, I got stuck at the very small Blue Dot image on that website AppSnapp takes you to. Therefore Steps 8 and 9 never worked for me at all. So what I did is I waited for Step 7 for like over 20 minutes and then I gave up… so I went back to the phone call, hung it up, and restarted my iphone by pressing the power button and the Home button (simultaneously for about 5 seconds). After the iphone restarted, the iphone bypassed the activation screen; basically I was on Step 10.
      5) I also found that Step 16 and 17 are somehow repetitive and can be joined as one step, which is basically to move the files to /usr/libexec.
      6) For Step 18, I personally put my own SIM before Step 1. That was fine with my own experience.

      Some Other notes:
      a) Itunes works perfectly fine with me, syncing etc. I only connected the iphone to my PC when everything was working well with the iphone first. I also disabled automatic updates before letting iTunes even see the iphone.
      b) You can always make an SSH connection to the iphone through puTTY and change that alpine password, and well, change almost any and everything else.. Be careful though! During the SSH connection the iphone could be slow, very slow or even freeze. The iphone runs Darwin :
      bash-3.2# uname -a
      Darwin iPhone 9.0.0d1 Darwin Kernel Version 9.0.0d1: Wed Sep 19 00:08:43 PDT 2007; root:xnu-933.0.0.203.obj~21/RELEASE_ARM_S5L8900XRB iPhone1,1 Darwin
      c) Enjoy your new Iphone!! (I will work on some hacks for the fun of it, I will post anything intersting if any one is interested :) )

Press Home+Power to switch off your iPhone. Hold it until the screen turns dark. When the screen turns dark, release the power button. Keep holding the Home button and open the iTunes now. Wait until it tells you iPhone is in recovery mode.

Recover your iPhone and skip stage 2.

    • 185. Olav replies at 4th November 2007, 3:53 am :

      Hi g,

you are right with your question about the lockdownd file. I unlocked two iPhones and even after appsnap told me that my first iphone is unlocked, I still wasn’t able to use my TMO card. It worked after I replaced the lockdownd file. The second phone went very smoothly through the entire unlock process w/o changing the lockdownd at all and w/o using a computer!. The first iPhone is already 4 weeks old and the second was fresh out of the box. Maybe that makes the difference.

One more comment for the US TMO users: the EDGE settings disappear after you switch of the phone, but there is a hack from http://i.unlock.no which will fix this issue (needs to be installed via installer.app).

      g,

the second “out of the box” phone was the one which didn’t have any trouble. The method from http://i.unlock.no worked indeed without PC. I started the unlock process of course with an AT&T SIM, since I bought it here in the US. I’m not a 100% sure, but I guess you can start the process with your local SIM, since you anyway bypass the activation with the first steps.

Good luck! Let us know what happend :-)

      Hi all,
Since I am assuming that most people here have the 1.1.1 firmware, I would like to check if other people have this same issue: When I play music through the ipod, the right speaker (located at the buttom of the iphone) has much much lower volume than the left one. Almost as if it was not working. To test, you could put your thumb and cover the left speaker and see if you hear anything… Anyone has the same issue? I could not so far find settings or what not in order to fix this problem. When plugged into headphones, both work fine, and the same when plugged into the car…

    • 194. Zack replies at 4th November 2007, 9:33 am :

Apperantly, the issue I posted earlier ended up being fine. After some tests (with my GF) I found out that the one on the left is an actual speaker, and the one on the right is the microphone. I think they made both look like speakers just for the look.

I thought first this had something to do with the unlocking program from anySIM.

    • 195. Olav replies at 4th November 2007, 9:35 am :

      Hi Zack,

yep, same with all phones: iPhone only has one speaker at the moment. One set of holes is a speaker, another one is a microphone. Very deceiving.

anysim 1.1 or simfree 1.7 (in relation to future software updates by apple and chances of getting bricked while updating)

      thanks

      Admin,
I managed to get the phone activated through CANAVAL. & follow through the steps. I suggested if people out there stuck at step 9 can bypass activation by using CANAVAL. Hope this helps. Happy unlocking.

      AMD1600,

Great to hear that. And yes, if you are unable to unlock it using the jailbreakme.com easiest method, try to downgrade it and unlock.

    • 207. admin replies at 4th November 2007, 5:49 pm :

      mrinal,

We highly recommend you to use AnySIM 1.1.1. People are reporting SimFree is destroying iPhone’s boot loader. (Although we are unable to proof it. Sorry).

And once you activate and jailbreak it, you can unlock with AnySIM 1.1.1

Than, you will be able to swap any SIM card you want (including AT&T)

Are you sure your iPhone is unlocked by anySIM 1.1.1? not unlocked by old anySIM 1.0.2?

      Hi again Admin!

We didn’t have much problems to unlock the one with 1.1.1(we used almost same method as yours), but we had much more problems with the one with version 1.0.2(I don’t have a Mac). So we tried to connect iphone to the computer and use iTunes to uppgrade firmware to 1.1.1(without registrer). And it was here we got problems. Because my computer crashed when I tried to connect with iPhone. One of my friends has same computer(Acer Ferrari), and also his crashed.. But we solved the problem when we tried it on a third computer(a different one, HP). Here, we downloaded new firmware and unlocked it as a 1.1.1.!
My question is: Do you know why the computer crash when we try to connect it to iPhone? Itunes workes ok before I try to connect it!

Okay, here’s my dilemma: Someone I know is going to the united states, and i’ve asked them to bring me back an iPhone, however they aren’t arriving there till Dec, assuming it comes with 1.1.1 I’m comfortable with unlocking mechanisms -

      but..

Assuming it comes with 1.1.2, will I be able to use the same downgrading practice for 1.1.2->1.1.1 as 1.1.1->1.0.2? And thereby unlock it, remember it’s not activated or anything. And yes i know it’s hard to answer this when you haven’t got the firmware yourself but in theory? Would it be the same downgrade mechanism as before?

      Any feedback is appreciated.

Actually, I don’t recommend to use hacktheiphone.com or modmyifone.com method for installing anySIM. During my testing, I found that these 2 site’s anySIM have some problem and cannot be run correctly. Not to said these sites are bad, but this is just my experience.

And yes. Theoretically I think it is okay to downgrade 1.1.2 it to 1.0.2. But I am not sure about this, since the firmware is not there yet.. May be need your input.

      mrinal,

      1. Use the above anySIM version.
      2. That method require you to downgrade. Not recommended.
      3. You must place a SIM only before running anySIM.
      4. Will soon be updated. Check the guide again.
      5. No. Not really. All works. That’s why I named it as “ultimate guide”.
      6. When you updated your iPhone to 1.1.1, the sound will be better. There is some patch in hackint0sh forum, but I don’t recommend you to try it as they actually not work.
      7. Wait for the next generation iPhone.

I followed steps 11, 12, 13 and 14 as listed by this method, I also done steps 15, 16, and 17 (stage 2). But when I restarted my iphone, it did not work. When I try to turn it on, the screen is completely black with a white apple in the middle ( I waited for one hour, but it is still in this way), obviously I cannot have access to the main screen. In addition, the only way to turn it off is to press home and on/off buttons at the same time.
Finally, I have still access to the iphone through WinSCP, but I do know if it could be useful for solving the problem.

I really hope that somebody can help me to find a solution. I really hope it is not break.

And, for the IP stuff, your iPhone’s IP should on the same range with notebook’s Wi-Fi. how to do it? Just make sure iPhone and notebook are connected with same Wi-Fi AP station.
