I wrote about how to enable the emoji icon :) using the address book contact technique. It involves importing many contacts to iPhone/iPod Touch. Now, here is an even more simpler way to enable emoji on iPhone system-wide without jailbreak. Some tech sites said you can use $0.99 Frost Place. But here is the new way to have emoji completely free.

Download the latest version 1.03 of Spell Number at here. Enter the number 9876543.21. Quit the application, and go into settings. Choose General > International > Keyboards > Japanese, and switch on “Emoji”.

Developer said a specific app to enable system-wide emoji is pulled from the App Store. Let’s hope SpellNumber will not be the next victim. Developer have also made a nice video to show you how to enable emoji easily without any jailbreak process.

For your information, using Frosty Place app to enable emoji won’t work on the latest iPhone/iPod Touch firmware 2.2.1. Just don’t waste the money to purchase the app.

Just tried Spell Number and it didn’t work. Neither did Frosty Place, which I tried earlier. Interestingly, it worked on my son’s iPhone, which is also 2.2.1
