Problems about soft-upgraded iPhone 1.1.3

The jailbreak method for iPhone 1.1.3 is released. It is not a complete update to 1.1.3 but just soft-update. You will still get 1.1.2 baseband on 1.1.3 firmware. Anyway, you can enjoy those great features of 1.1.3. But, there are things you need to know after upgrading to 1.1.3. Solution included for some cases.
Note soft-upgrade for iPhone only tested under bootloader 3.9, OTB iPhone 1.1.2 or higher (of boorloader 4.6) may not work.
1. Remove the huge 300MB file to save the space

You can manually login to iPhone through SSH, navigate to “/”, remove the folder “softupgrade”. Or, you can install the “1.1.3 Soft Upg. Cleaner” from Installer of iPhone.
2. Only 4 international keyboard available
A new international keyboard hack is available here. Download it and upload to iPhone, replace the existing “UIKit” under ” /System/Library/Frameworks/UIKit.framework/”. I didn’t have tried it so cannot confirm whether it works perfectly or not.
3. Customize and Summerboard will not work
Summberboard and Customize now works for iPhone 1.1.3. But, be warned, it is not that stable. You can install the most updated version from Installer. Easy.
4. Ringtone may not work properly
Add “http://sleepers.net/iphonerepo” to the Installer sources. Install the “1.1.3 Ringtone Fix” will help. Use the GarageBand to create the custom ringtones. Or convert the ringtone file to AAC, rename it to “ringtone_name .m4r” (notice there’s a space before the dot). Double click to add it in iTunes.
5. Google Maps cannot locate where you are

Do not replace the lockdownd file of 1.1.3 to make it work. Simply install “Locate Me” or “Navizon” from Installer. Locate where you are using either of this 2 softwares, then open Google Maps and the virtual GPS function should work now.
6. International caller ID not match
There is a new AppSupport file for 1.1.3 here which can fix the problem. Download it and extract. Instructions:
- Create a directory named “Support” in the /System/Library/Frameworks/AppSupport.framework/ directory
on your iPhone.
- Copy the “AppSupport” and “AppSupport.original” files from the zip file to
the /System/Library/Frameworks/AppSupport.framework/ directory on your iPhone.
- Copy the “PhoneNumber.dylib” and “PhoneNumberTemplates.txt” files from the zip file to
the /System/Library/Frameworks/AppSupport.framework/Support/ directory on your iPhone.
- Optimize the “PhoneNumberTemplates.txt” file on your iPhone by moving all templates for your country
to the top of the file and/or removing templates for countries that you don’t need.
- Reboot iPhone.
7. EDGE not working and settings is not saved

Go to “Settings” > “General”, choose “Reset”. Reset all network settings. It should work after all.
8. OpenSSH is not working anymore and cannot be uninstalled
Reinstallation of OpenSSH can help. Notice there will not be any SSH icon on the iPhone main screen under 1.1.3. To change the password, download this application and upload it to iPhone’s Application folder. Run it and then you can change the password.
9. BSD Subsystem problem
Manually reinstall it through Installer.app. It is easy.
10. Applications disappeared after upgrade
This will happen if you have moved your Applications use this hack. Revert the hack by following commands shown in picture:

Also loosing Itunes Previews on jailbroken 1.1.3 should be added to the list of problems. I’ve had this problem & have seen numerous other posts of people having this problem.

edge still doesnt work for me no matter how many times i have reset my network settings. this is so frustrating… and the locateme thing doesnt work either. it used to work before i upgraded to 1.1.3 i think it doesnt work because i no longer have edge.
4. CyberTron replies at 27th January 2008, 3:57 am :
hmm… I have a problem where the E symbol for the Edge no longer appear. It seems from your screenshot yours also do not have that.
Also when I try to play a video in youtube, it says something like I need EDGE/Wifi.
I have problem problem with safari on EDGE, or weather or stocks.
5. admin replies at 27th January 2008, 4:10 am :
CyberTron and rudy,
I sometimes don’t have EDGE connection because my subscribed operator actually don’t support that. You should check whether your operator really supports EDGE or not. But, at least, you can go online with SLOW GPRS connection for sure.

Customize works perfectly for me,
and after decrypting the update firmware image, i managed to get all the new 1.1.3 apps on my iphone and clean all of the *hit softupgrade did…
The phone is 1.1.3, the baseband is not, and customize works a charm for me.

I still can’t connect to edge. I reset my network settings and “all settings” several times with no luck.
9. alden replies at 28th January 2008, 8:53 am :
Used iBrickr to go from jailbroken 1.1.1 to 1.1.3 and, still can’t get EDGE working, iTunes previews, or faux-GPS (LocateMe and Navizon can’t locate me, but could on 1.1.1.)
If EDGE and iTunes previews can’t work, it’s not even worth being on 1.1.3 for me. :\
Themes is another bummer but I knew about that one!

I’ll add one more major problem - the iPod function becomes pretty much completely dead. Either no sound output (on either speaker or via headphones), or pressing the play button doesn’t cause the track to … play.
I went from 1.1.1 jailbroken phone straight to 1.1.3, which after much googling seems to be an inferior way of going about it instead of going from 1.1.1 -> 1.1.2 -> 1.1.3. I will try to downgrade the phone back to 1.1.1 etc. and see whether this fixes the problem.

gutguido,
That’s why I write 1.1.1 > 1.1.2 then 1.1.3
http://www.winandmac.com/mobile/iphone/how-to-from-any-version-to-iphone-113-unlocked-and-jailbroken/
do not go from 1.1.1 to 1.1.3, unexpected error will happen
13. Norman replies at 29th January 2008, 3:38 am :
I went up from 1.1.1 to 1.1.3 with iBrick and everything was working almost perfect until the Installer started to take me out before any installation completed. I decided to re-install the Installer app and it downloaded completed.. and kicked me out too.. once this happened, I can’t get back in the Installer application. I have no way to install any further applications. After reading all these issues, I will go back to 1.1.1.

Hi!
I have a problem with jailbroken 1.1.3, maybe you can advice. I tried to move /Applications folder to /var/root/Applications and do a symlink to that, and SpringBoard started failing continuously. Then I moved it back to /Applications, but SpringBoard still failing. I also changed passwords for root and mobile before that, but I backed up /etc/passwd and /etc/master.passwd, now put it back and still no luck. Maybe you faced this issue and have a solution please?
16. hydralien replies at 29th January 2008, 7:37 pm :
Seems like I was too stupid and changed root password before backing up the files… Is there a place where I can get those files from?

reboot seems to give me the loaded chimes and slide works but gives me a black screen then gives me the 2 chimes again.. removed cable after attempted independance and got the screen about editing home page but then crashes out the the slide to unlock screen again..

after downloading BSD, a notice appeared and says “do not use passwd to change the password on 1.1.3, it is currently broken and will make springboard crash continuously!”. then the installer hangs. wat should i do?

jp,
Press and Hold the HOME button, make the Installer quit. Then, run the Installer and retry.
