I know it’s a little bit late, but there are still some readers want to know how to jailbreak iPhone/iPod Touch with firmware 3.0. iPhone/iPod Touch firmware 3.0 is not really completed. It still lacks some of the important features like downloading YouTube, iBluetooth, Video recording and more. Now including iPhone 3GS can enjoy the jailbreak. Just go for it.
Let’s get this straight. Time to jailbreak the iPhone/iPod Touch firmware 3.0. Do not blame anyone if something goes wrong.
Before you begin, make sure you have installed iTunes 8.2 and upgraded iPhone/iPod Touch to firmware 3.0. redsn0w is the tool to jailbreak but it won’t help you to upgrade the iPhone/iPod Touch. You have to do that simply press “Update” in iTunes, but make sure it’s firmware 3.0.
Step 1. Download redsn0w 0.8 or above at here for Mac or here for Windows.
Step 2. Run the program and select the IPSW file that ends with “_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw”. It’s in “C:\User\[Your User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes Software Update” for Windows Vista and 7, and “/[Your User Name]/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates” for Mac. (Change [Your User Name] to your user name registered) If you don’t want to spend time finding it, you may download the firmware again from Apple:

iPhone 3G firmware 3.0 7A341
iPhone 3GS firmware 3.0
Note iPhone 2G firmware starts at “iPhone 1,1″, iPhone 3G firmware starts at “iPhone 1,2″ and iPhone 3GS firmware starts at “iPhone 2,1″. Don’t choose the wrong firmware!
For iPod Touch, you have to pay $9.95 for the firmware 3.0.
Step 3. Check and choose to install Cydia.
Step 4. For iPhone 3GS, you will see this. Disconnect the iPhone 3GS with computer. Turn off the iPhone 3GS now. Then, keep holding the home button, connect with the computer again. Keep holding the home button until the connect to iTunes logo appears (that is a iTunes account with USB cable). For other iPhones and iPod Touches, please follow step 4a and 4b.
Step 4A. Except iPhone 3GS, connect the iPhone/iPod Touch to the computer now. Turn it off before clicking NEXT in this screen.
Step 4B. Before you click NEXT, make sure you are ready. After you have really clicked the NEXT button, follow the on-screen instructions immediately. Do the part when the text is highlighted: Hold down the power button. Then, keep holding power button and press home button at the same time. At last, release the power button and keep holding home button.
Step 5. If you have followed the instructions successfully, you will see the redsn0w is uploading ramdisk. If not, just retry. Your iPhone/iPod Touch will still be fine. iPhone 2G and 3G may stuck in the second reboot, disconnect the iPhone and plug it to other USB port. resn0w should continue to work.
Step 6. When it displayed it’s finished, it’s not. iPhone/iPod Touch still have something to do. Wait until it shows the normal home screen.
Step 7. Cydia icon appears on the 3.0 home screen. Run it and update all the elements of Cydia. You can now install MxTube to download YouTube videos, iBluetooth for transferring files, Cycorder to record videos even it’s not 3GS. Stay tuned winandmac for the tutorials and how to use Cydia to make iPhone/iPod Touch better in the future.
Does this enable push notifications on jailbroken 2G iPhones???
I’m waiting for a solution to that. I’ve installed firmware 3.0 and jailbroken and unlocked it thru Pwnage tool, but can’t get psh notifications to work. Thanks!

Sorry by default, you won’t have push in iPhone 2G.
But I found that there is some solution available in the internet. You may try to find one online

i did jailbreak with redsnow on my ipod touch 2G 3.0 and when i tried to download themes and wallpapers and choose them ( i download winterboard for all these) and when i go there and choose theme i want , it seemed to set it but then nothing, it is as it was before …. can u help me ? what is wrong …
Hi, what does “(Change [Your User Name] to your user name registered)” is that your user name from itunes or from an apple account or something.

I tried the steps a couple of times but when my ipod reboots I don’t see cydia on my ipod. I also tried icy but still nothing. what am i doing wrong?

I got stuck many times on the second reboot screen. I tried unplugging and reconnecting it, running it in safe mode, running it in compatibility modes, uninstalling and reinstalling redsnow/firmware and none of them work. I restored my Itouch back to original settings. I’m sure I have the correct IPSW file.
I have a 2nd gen Ipod Touch, with Vista (32 bit). What am I doing wrong?

Are you sure you choose the correct firmware? Many people choose the iPhone 3G firmware for 3GS
I thought it didn’t work, as the ipod touch 2.0 didn’t reboot and Cydia didn’t appear on the home page, but Cydia was put on the second page to the right on the home page. Check there!

Hi, I’ve just made the operation twice and when the whole process is finished I get all the apps that I had before but none of the offcial apps such as Mail, Phone, Calendar, iPod, etc etc etc!!!!!

I jailbroke my ipod touch 2g 3.0 and it went all the way until the end but it wont reboot and i try to turn it on and nothing happens just a black screen…and i try to connect it to the computer and it doesn’t say anything is conected!PLEASE helppp!!!
