According to different sources, the Google Android 1.5 Cupcake update delivery by T-Mobile will be delayed. But, thanks to the open source nature of Android, it’s pretty easy to flash a customized ROM to your existing Google phone. (probably T-Mobile G1). I have followed the guide available in The Android Site. It works amazingly. You may also want to take a look. I personally flashed the ROM. It supports multi-touch and Chinese input methods.
Here is the tip. After you gain root access of your T-Mobile G1, you do not have to follow the whole tutorial over and over again. In the future, when you want to flash T-Mobile G1 with another ROM built by other hackers, you only need to follow the steps below,
Step 1. Change the ROM zip file as “update.zip”
Step 2. Transfer it to SD Card.
Step 3. Power off the T-Mobile G1. Power it on again by press and hold Home and Power button at the same time.
Step 4. Use the keyboard to press Alt+L. It will show a debug menu.
Step 5. Press Alt+W to wipe all the staff existing in the device.
Step 6. Press Alt+S to apply the update from SD card.
Oh. Don’t forget: make sure you have backup anything important in the G1 before you flash any ROM.
