Since iPhone 2G and 3G can now be jailbroken, Cydia (Installer.app’s alternative) will have all our favourite app used in firmware 1.1.4 transported to 2.0. You know, Apple won’t allow all the apps submitted go to the AppStore. That’s why jailbreaking is important since you can enjoy more apps besides AppStore.

You may have already installed OpenSSH so that you can browse the iPhone file system for more hacking. Since it is not easy to change the default OpenSSH password, you may want to toggle it when you’re not using. Boss Prefs has just updated and work under firmware 2.0. Althought only the OpenSSH toggle option can work currently, it is already a good tool for us to prevent iPhone to be accessed easily when you’re on the Wi-Fi network.

You can now install Boss Prefs by searching in it Cydia.

Currently, there is no way to unlock the iPhone 3G. But, if you leave in Hong Kong or Italy, you are lucky because there is no SIM lock of their iPhone 3G. Anyway, even most of the iPhone 3G users are using the official carrier, they still want to jailbreak it.

I know, iPhone 3G already comes with AppStore by Apple. But, you know, not all the iPhone apps we used in 1.1.4 can go to the official AppStore. We want to jailbreak it so that we can enjoy more unofficial apps by the community.

By using the latest iPhone Pwnage Tool 2.0.1, you will be able to add Cydia (Installer.app alternative) to the iPhone 3G. You can enjoy most apps you familiar from 1.1.4 Installer in the near future. To do so, let’s follow this step by step guide. It’s easy.

Again, try it at your own risk. You need to backup all the stuff on iPhone 3G first before you do anything.

I thought everyone knows it, but may be not. CNET shows you on how to capture a screenshot in iPhone firmware 2.0. Just press power and home button at the same time, and the screen will flash. The screenshots will be saved in camera roll of photos. If you are using old firmware 1.1.4, just install “Capture” or “Screenshots” available in Installer.app.

A new tweak from “Planet-iPhone Mods” of Installer can help to change the signal bar with a AT&T logo. The logo matches the feel of the iPhone. It looks great. You can find “ATT Signal Bars” after you have installed Community Sources.

Are you a girl using the iPhone? This little tweak is for you. From the “Planet-iPhones Mods” category of Installer.app, there is a new addition called “Pink Notes”. It will turn the Notes.app something like above. Em. Too pink for a boy, good for a girl.

Google Talk for iPhone has released. I have tried to play this new web app, and Installer.app’s native instant messaging app is still a better choice. To try the Google Talk web app, navigate the browser to “http://www.google.com/talk”. Login using your own Google account information.

It will show you the friends list like above. Click the friend you want to chat to. It does not comes with so many exciting new features. The result why I feel native app is better is that, you cannot keep online if you opened another iPhone program. In addition, the web app will make the Safari keeps loading and refreshing.

Let’s hope Google will develop a native program in the near future. It is possible since we will have the App Store in iPhone 2.0 very soon.

In the current version, most users use MobileChat as the instant messaging software. MobileChat supports different kind of accounts, and it can keep online. It will be running in the background. Now, we have another one in the Installer. It is called “AgileMessenger” under “Network” category. You probably heard the name in the Palm OS. Now it comes to iPhone.

AgileMessenger works similar with MobileChat. It supports many instant messaging platform including MSN, ICQ, Google Talk, Jabber and more. It keeps online and running in the background. The very different thing is that AgileMessenger supports tab chat. It even support instant picture sharing. The animation style matches Apple’s feel, too.

The calculator in the current firmware 1.1.4 is not good. We will have a better one in the upcoming iPhone 2.0. While we are waiting for the new firmware, Installer has a program called “GoodCalculator” in the “Productivity” category. It looks similar to the default calculator, but it comes with more features. You can calculate +/- and % value easily. If you typed any incorrect numbers, click the “<-” icon. It is slightly better than the default, right?
