The craziest iPhone typist in the world

March 15th, 2010

Who said the physical QWERTY keyboard is better than the virtual keyboard? Only those people who are not familiar with the virtual keyboard will say that. Don’t believe me? Take a look of this video. See how fast the virtual keyboard can type. His latest record is 83 words per minute. And think why you can’t do that.

Okay. You believe you can beat him? Try the iTextSpeed (US$0.99/Free) and tell us how fast you can type.

How to: cheat the iTunes that iPhone has firmware 3.1.3 so that it won’t remind you to upgrade

March 13th, 2010

If you want to keep the jailbreak, you probably won’t upgrade the iPhone to firmware 3.1.3 since current 3.1.3 jailbreak solution does not work for every iPhone. But, iTunes will remind you. You may not want to upgrade, but sometimes you will just accidentally click the wrong button.

To make your iPhone safe and keep the jailbreak, you can install the Firmware 3.1.3 App from Cydia. It’s located at the default BigBoss source. Launch the app and click 3.1.3. Click reboot to apply the changes. It won’t upgrade your iPhone, but iTunes will now think your 3.1.2 iPhone is running 3.1.3 firmware. When the perfect jailbreak solution is available sometime in the future, just click the 3.1.2 and click the reboot button.

Make the iPhone home screen scrolling both vertically and horizontally for more apps

March 9th, 2010

There are only a few ways to expand the number of iPhone springboard pages for more apps. A new tool called Infiniboard(US$1.99) from Cydia is released. It makes the dream of installing many apps until they fill the iPhone completely possibly come true.

Infiniboard allows users to swipe the home screen vertically. You can drag the app icons on the page continuously even it already has 16 icons. Spend a few minutes to expand the possibilities of the iPhone. Note it seems it is not compatible with Overboard also. You will see empty squares like pictured above in Overboard.

Infiniboard developers are also involved in InfiniDock. The current problem of Infiniboard is that you won’t be able to organize the apps in the iTunes. If I can put more icons in iTunes, it’s better than using the fingers to drag it.

March 8th, 2010

FreeAppAlert is the place to find apps that are suddenly free. But, if you think the iPhone is a gaming device, then you should take a look of Free Game of the Day.  It is powered by OpenFeint which is the engine for developers enhancing the games. That means they are connected with many iPhone game developers. OpenFeint has also invited game developers to join the Free Game of the Day. It could help to promote the games for sure. For other users like us, just check the site everyday to grab some goodies.

Review: First Google Buzz iPhone native app that could make it becomes more popular

March 5th, 2010

If this new Google Buzzie (US$1.99) app comes from Google, I think it will be free. Anyway, this native app provides a better experience than the official web app at buzz.google.com. After you have logged in, you will see an interface that would be easy to start.

To create a new buzz, just click the button on the top right. It looks like a Twitter client but without the 140 wordings limitation. Showing the current locations is enabled by default, so you may have to click the location name and choose “No location”. Unfortunately, we cannot share photos with it now.

It will list all your friends that you have followed in the “Following” section. Since it is a native app, the content is well-formatted. It would be easier to view those comments now. Users can click the toolbar at the bottom to discover the related links, photos or locations easily.

To look for more friends nearby, you should try the nearby section. Click on the names of the strangers you want to follow, it will list the numbers of friends immediately. Google Buzzie is encouraging me to try to “buzz” more because of the nicely designed interface. Some people said Twitter is so popular because of huge numbers of iPhone Twitter apps support. If Google can support Google Buzzie developer and make it free, it’s sure it will help Buzz to become more popular.

Old trick: Classic color blindness test and the scary ghost in iPhone

February 22nd, 2010

Remember the old color blindness test? A scary ghost photo suddenly pops out during the user is very focus on the screen. This stupid test is now available at the iPhone. It’s not on the App Store. You have to search “Scare Tactics Promo App” from the default BigBoss source.

In the app, click “Scare Your Friends” and there are 3 games available. While you are playing with those “games”, the scary ghost (may be not so scary) will suddenly appear. Little advice: Make sure you watch your friends action when you are trying to scare them. Some people may throw the iPhone away or break it when the ghost appears.

Meebo for the iPhone arrives: It’s late but truly amazing

February 17th, 2010

Most of us would probably know how to use instant messaging in the iPhone. There are several options available and personally I use BeejiveIM (US$6.99). It is not free but you can’t find those great features of BeejiveIM in the freeware. It was true until Meebo for the iPhone has released.

Meebo for the iPhone is completely free and available to download at here. If you have been using Meebo.com, the app will sync the accounts. If not, you are required to register a Meebo account. You will be able to add MSN, Facebook, ICQ, Facebook and more after all. Meebo has a huge list of supported IM accounts.

The main interface is clean with 3 tabs only. It has a small icon on the list indicating IM networks that your friends using. While you are chatting with friends, you can add emoticons. You can even know whether your friend is typing. That can’t be found in the current version of BeejiveIM. The chat bubbles are nice, too.

Push notification is also available. I found that it can’t push and display messages correctly if they are not in English. When you slide to view, you will be able to read the message, though. There are some key features that are missed. For instance, you can’t send photos or voice messages with the app. If you don’t need these features, Meebo is a great IM app.

First look at iPad SDK Beta 2: “Flash-less” Safari is added and more icons on the dock

February 12th, 2010

Apple has released another new beta of iPad SDK recently and developers will be able to know a little more about it. The major difference is that new beta has Safari. The iPad Safari has all the buttons near the address bar. You can even turn on the bookmark bar from the settings which makes the feel closer to the desktop version.

When you want to add the page to the home screen, it will be shown as popup box. For the Flash, iPad Safari will load nothing. It can open more than 8 tabs and you can preview it all at once.

On the official page of Apple, it shows only 4 icons on the dock. It seems that we can add more, actually. It looks like the desktop Mac OS X, right? Click below for more photos. You may also want to check out our first look at the first beta of iPad at here.
