Joost is a huge online and legal video site for years. You can watch full TV shows, music, films and more. Since those contents are not downloadable, we can’t enjoy it on the go. But thanks to Joost, they have released a client for iPhone.

Joost for iPhone is free on App Store. The video database is just the same as the desktop version Joost.com. It is pity that Joost for iPhone won’t connect on 3G. It only works for Wi-Fi. I hate that because we don’t have Wi-Fi everywhere. It is extremely inconvenient if you want to watch Joost on fast moving cars. Only 3G connection can keep connection alive. That’s why I hope it works on 3G.

Note some videos may not be able to be played since it is affected by geography. It’s okay to me, but it seems that the software simply doesn’t work right now. I have opened Wi-Fi connection and tried a few videos, it keeps on displaying playback error. It said my 10Mbps connection speed is poor. I asked my friends and they also have the same problem. (How about yours? Tell me in the comments) Hope Joost can fix it quickly.

Do you always feel that the 3G or Wi-Fi connection is slow? We can test it by using like Xtreme Speedtest or DSLReports.com Network Speed Test standalone apps which are free on App Store. This is better than using Mobile Safari because the results will not be affected by Safari’s own rendering speed.

CBS Interactive has released a new app called CheckTubes. The function is similar to Xtreme Speedtest and Network Speed Test, but the interface definitely looks better. Click “Check Your Tubes” and everything will be done automatically. A result will be shown below after the test is finished.

For 3G connection, CheckTubes will download only 300K file to test. And for Wi-Fi connection, it will download 1MB file. The result will show you the exact Mbps which saved time for converting. It will also show you the KB/S. (Notice the difference between b and B. b = bit, B = byte). One thing I don’t like is that CheckTubes seems got no way to delete the testing history.

Are you waiting for iPhone 3G software unlock? If you dare, you can try this in Vietnam. In Vietnam, there is a guy who can help to unlock iPhone 3G. You won’t need TurboSIM or wait for software unlock anymore. It will work all the way. The process is done by a Vietnamese Tuan Anh Do. It costs around US$10+ and one hour. They promise the unlock will be permanent.

It is done by editing the baseband directly and removing the motherboard for advanced modification. That means the iPhone 3G needs to be opened. If anything goes wrong, the shop will pay you for the damaged iPhone 3G.

iPhone Linux Demonstration Video from planetbeing on Vimeo.

With the huge users base on iPhone platform, it seems everything is possible. planetbeing project team has ported a Linux to iPhone. Although many drivers are missing, this is still a very first time to see an alternative operating system on iPhone. Installation seems complicated for general users, so watch the video demo may be better. You will be able to look into the login console once installation Linux on iPhone is successful. I am dreaming to have Google Android OS on iPhone. Android is open source, so that could be possible.

Unlike iPhone, Google Android does not have any statistics to show you how many data transfers it occurs. With NetMeter that can be downloaded from Android Market, you can monitor it easily. It can be run as a service in the background, so it keeps on monitoring all the time. Note the small blue icon on the top, the data transfer will be monitored.

From NetMeter, it will display the transfer using a graph with different colors. It will also record the total data usage of EDGE/3G and Wi-Fi. In addition, NetMeter can show the CPU load of the Google phone. Even T-Mobile is offering unlimited plan for all Google phone, but we still want to know how many data transfers we actually use, right?

Tech always meets life. This is an apple pie that looks like a little Mac Mini. They used a very special way to cut the Apple logo. After putting lots of the apples inside, put it in the oven. And yes, time for dessert. Yummy.
