Apparently, Web 2.0 is not working anytime you wanted. I am not saying Web 2.0 is not useful, but it sometimes slow because of EDGE connection and cannot provide killer apps. Finally, the wait seems over. Apple already announced there will be a SDK coming in Feb, and recent iPhone 1.1.3 update is said to be ready for this.
Nate True, the expert of iPhone, found something interesting:
- SpringBoard no longer needs to be modified (via SummerBoard) in order to show extra applications in the /Applications folder.
- All applications now run as the user ‘mobile’ instead of as root.
- Preferences are now stored in /var/mobile rather than in /var/root.
It simply means iPhone 1.1.3 is ready for installing applications. And Nate True and other expert will wait and see what will SDK look like. Then, they will decide to release the jailbreak tool for iPhone 1.1.3 or not. It may not be necessary if Apple’s official SDK supports well.
And, let’s hope there will be a software unlock for iPhone 1.1.3.

Many tech weblogs uses WordPress as their blogging system. You may know WordPress is a php program which provides many advanced feature with easy set-up. You can download the program through WordPress.org. If you don’t have a web host, you can always open a weblog directly on WordPress.com. (DOT COM is for free weblog hosting, DOT ORG is for downloading the wordpress source program.)
WordPress.com is free like Xanga, Blogger and MSN Space, but WordPress.com now offers up to 3GB for every users. I personally think that WordPress is the best platform among others. They are simple but feature-completed.

The very popular iPhone ultimate guide of winandmac.com will be revised. Since iPhone 1.1.3 is out, those guides involving to unlock iPhone may not be applicable anymore. I am now working hard to rewrite all those guides and will simplify it. I will be aiming to write the guide for working iPhone 1.1.2 only. There will be no unlock guide for iPhone 1.1.1 or lower in the future.
It really take lots of time for me to write it. So, be patient. I will try my best to keep it live within these few days. Keep clicking and thanks to all of the generous readers who support winandmac.com.

Previously, Microsoft does not really allows people to run Windows Vista on virtual machines. But, they has lifted the ban. Starting from 21 Jan 2008, the license agreement will be changed. Microsoft will support Windows Vista Home Basic and Premium user that uses virtualization technology. You don’t need to pay more because you are running Mac or Linux system and wishes to run Vista.
Virtualization means you can run Windows Vista on Mac or Linux system using the software which simulates like a real computer. In Mac, you can run Windows directly on Mac using Parallels or VMWare.

Those powerful software needs money, for example, VoiceDial is a new voice recognize software for iPhone that costs US$27.95. You can now find it in Installer.app’s recent packages. After installation, you need to let the software recognize your voice under Actions > System Commands. Then, go back to actions to set other voice commands for contacts, applications and bookmarks.
You can always edit or train it under Commands tab. The little tip is to set each voice commands with huge differences. It enhances accuracy. Still, I set actions with similar voice commands and VoiceDial program still works well.
VoiceDial won’t run in the background, so you need to run it before to use the voice to control iPhone.

We all know Windows Mobile 6 Professional and Classic have a soft keyboard which is not finger-friendly. And I don’t like taking out the little pen to type. CooTek TouchPal is a freeware (for personal use) which enhances the touch experience of Windows Mobile. It enhances the touch experience by adding a virtual QWERTY keyboard. Every special designed button represents 3-4 letters. For instance, if you want to input letter “x”, press the button (like above) and then slide right to input letter “x”.
TouchPal also supports auto correction and word association. That’s why it claims typing 300chars/min. While 300 chars/min seems not so possible for general users, this TouchPal should be the stuff included in next Windows Mobile.
Video Demo after the break.
